Coronation Street spoilers: Pat Phelan’s death EXPOSED as Eileen’s shock role is revealed

Corrie bosses have been relatively tight-lipped over the fate Coronation Street’s resident murderer, but now details on Pat’s (played by Conor McIntyre) exit have begun to surface.

This week Coronation Street producer Kate Oates confirmed that Pat will meet his doom in 2018, and that his wife Eileen Phelan (Sue Cleaver) will have a large hand in it.

It has now been claimed that the Weatherfield villain will be pushed off of a cliff by Eileen.

A source told The Sun: “The whole show has been building up to this point for some time. Phelan’s murderous ways will finally be revealed while he and Eileen are on a mini-break.

“But while they’re there the police find the bodies at his building site and Liz tells Eileen about everything.”

The two bodies found could well be those of Andy Carver (Oliver Farnworth), and Vinny Ashford (Ian Kelsey), who were shot in cold blood by Pat late last year.

The source continued: “When they start to clash while out walking Phelan tries to go for her and she sidesteps him and throws him into the sea.

“It will stun and delight viewers,” they added. “He’s finally getting his comeuppance.”

Despite Eileen’s problems apparently solved with Pat gone, she returns to Weatherfield to find the residents suspicious of her.

Eileen finds herself being questioned by her close friends as to how she was so oblivious to the entire situation.

She also receives a visit from the police, who find it hard to believe that she didn’t know anything about Pat’s numerous murders.

Eileen is left shaken by the accusations, and will surely be interrogated further once Pat’s currently unknown crimes come to light.

Coronation Street boss Kate Oates recently teased Eileen’s involvement in Pat’s exit, saying: “What I like about Phelan’s downfall is that it’s very much to do with Eileen. It’s to do with her realising who she’s married.

“It’s to do with Nicola and that child. You’ve got the high drama balanced out with the emotional family domestic drama, which is when I think Corrie is at its best.”

Pat’s daughter, Nicola Rubinstein (Nicola Thorpe), recently returned to Corrie pregnant, and has since teamed up with Gary Windass (Mikey North) to take down her estranged father.

So far this year, viewers have already witnessed Pat strike again, when he left Luke Britton (Dean Fagan) in a burning car.

He has also blackmailed Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) into testifying against Anna Windass (Debbie Rush) for a crime she didn’t commit.

Coronation Street continues tonight at 7.30pm on ITV
