The US actress, who weds Prince Harry in May, spoke on a visit to Edinburgh.

Fans cheered as the loved-up couple kept clutching each other on the eve of Valentine’s Day.

Tourists Tom Martin, 30, and Francesca Short, 27, from London chatted to them as they strolled up the Esplanade to Edinburgh Castle.

Tom said: “She was introducing herself with ‘Hi, I’m Meghan’ — as if no one knew who she was.

“We asked what they were doing for their stag and hen dos. Meghan said, ‘I’m not sure — it’s sorted but it will be fun’.

“Harry said he didn’t know about his.

“I’m sure William’s got something up his sleeve.”

Francesca said: “They seem really nice, happy and relaxed.”

Meghan, 36, carried a green bag by Scottish fashion firm Strathberry and wore a £2,000 blue and green Burberry coat.

There was a potentially awkward moment when she was introduced to the Royal Regiment of Scotland’s mascot — a Shetland pony called Cruachan IV who was wearing a similar coloured tartan.

But Meghan simply said how sweet he was.

Harry, 33, reached to stroke the pony’s head only for it to try to nibble his fingers.

He wiggled them and said: “Hey, buddy.”

The prince then spotted a man in the crowd with a large ginger beard and said: “Love your beard, well done.”

When a well-wisher said she hoped they had good weather for their big day, Meghan joked: “Being in the UK, all I do is talk about the weather now.”

Meghan told staff she had previously volunteered in a soup kitchen and liked the look of their jobs.

When shop manager Mimi Guery joked they only hired people with good taste in music, Harry said: “I can vouch for that. She does have good tunes.”

Fashion Verdict

MEGHAN earned herself some brownie points in Edinburgh, opting for a very fitting tartan coat from Burberry at £1,995.
Her choice of check is a huge trend for this season.
Her £395 bag would have also appealed as it is by Strathberry. It’s the second time she’s worn the Scottish brand, causing the bottle-green style to sell out online just like the tote she had in Nottingham in December.
But Meghan might not have been ready for the weather, as the wide hem of her trousers, by US label Veronica Beard, got muddy. They already had a £289 price tag — not including the dry cleaning bill.
